Winter Solstice
Makar sankaranti is festival of Harvest, celebration of winter solstice, it’s a traditional festival also called as Pongal, Sankarnti, Bihu , Lohri and with many different myriad forms according to area wise. It is celebrated on 14 January every year day when sun starts its movement away from tropic of Capricorn. Its festival celebrated in almost every part of India and in Nepal in a myriad of culture forms. Makar Sankranti marks the transition of sun into the zodiac sign of the Makara rashi (Caprocorn). On its celestial path its also believes that its traditional mark of coming spring season ahead of it. Makara Sankaranti is solar event which falls on same date of Gregorian calendar every year. According to Hindi calendar its celebration of happiness to arrival of new crops for farmers. Its have astrological significance when Sun enters into Capricorn Zodiac constellation on that day . Thousand years ago it was celebrated on 31 December and now on 14 January and by facts and astrological Science it was fall on 15 January from 2050. It is beginning of auspicious phase in Indian culture or in other words “Holy phase of transition” In Many regions it is celebrated by Different kind of Teel barfi predominantly of teel or khichdi in local dialects but overall dominance of teel is there. Many are celebrate it by playing’ gilli danda’ and many are by flying kites. May the celebration of sankaranti alter the bad days and gives us blessing to warmth our life like celebration of lohri and we all enjoy the festive season with great sort of time.
